Sponsorship/Sign-on Policy Guidelines

Adopted by the Executive Committee on April 5, 2019

Kolot Chayeinu receives regular requests to sponsor, co-sponsor, endorse and sign-onto a variety of issues, letters, causes and campaigns. This policy is meant to provide guidelines to congregants, staff, clergy and lay leaders in these situations.

  1. Except as outlined in #7 below, only issues that relate to Judaism or are part of Kolot’s current areas of work will be considered.

  2. Requests should be submitted to the staff/clergy person connected to the topic/area of work and/or the Executive Director.

  3. If the Executive Director and staff/clergy person connected to the area of work do not think that it is an issue that warrants more discussion, they are authorized to respond to the request directly.

  4. If the Executive Director and staff/clergy conclude that it warrants more discussion, it should be forwarded with a memo of explanation and deadline to the full Executive Committee.

  5. Requests related to Israel/Palestine must always be brought to the Executive Committee for review.

  6. Each time Kolot decides to sponsor/endorse/sign-onto a campaign, we will notify the congregation by announcing the decision in the Weekly.

  7. For very compelling reasons, staff and clergy may bring requests that fall outside #1 above to the full Executive Committee for review.

  8. Additional weight will not be given to those requests submitted by Kolot members and/or Board members.

  9. The Executive Committee will consider the appropriate way to participate in events that are honoring current staff and/or Board members, by for example, purchasing a journal ad or ticket. Events that are honoring congregants and friends of Kolot may be lifted up in the Weekly.
